Continuum
Medium: Installation with objects and photographs
Year: 2015
Continuum explores incongruities in relation to natural and made objects. Photographs inside the jars record the deterioration of white plastic chairs; utilitarian objects degenerating and presented as specimens for biological analysis. The relationship between the eggs and the drawers leads us to consider the vulnerability of organic forms in urban environments. The cabinets protect fragile eggs; items of mass consumerism, which, in their manufacture, deterioration and inevitable discard will, in turn, harm natural habitats. Contradictions of this sort exist all around us in repopulated cities. How sustainable can regeneration ever be in countries where economic growth is, overwhelmingly, the desired outcome?
