What Remains. Elsewhere. Now Here.
Three ways of speaking about a place without naming it.
An old tree. A child who cannot look. A tree in bloom.
I think about the distance between these three images — and about the distances we have learned to live with: between countries, generations, memories, bodies. Between the place we come from and the place we are told we belong to.
We live in a time when people are being asked to look away from too many things. From violence. From loss. From the disappearance of freedoms.
But looking is also a form of staying and what we are all trying to understand is ‘how to remain human in the place we are now.’
